New pilot project at Cinespace’s Kipling Campus will make reusable set materials more accessible to Ontario productions

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Cinespace Studios today announced a new partnership with SOS Depot to support materials reuse across Ontario’s film and television industry.

Through the partnership, SOS Depot will operate from a 4,000-square-foot space at Cinespace Studios’ Kipling Campus, located at 777 Kipling Avenue in Toronto. The depot will collect and store reusable scenery, set pieces and construction materials and make them available for rental or purchase by future productions.

The pilot project is designed to make materials reuse easier and more accessible while supporting sustainable production practices and strengthening Toronto and Ontario as competitive, production-ready markets.

Film and television sets can require significant volumes of flats, backdrops, doors, windows, subfloors and other construction materials. Although many of these assets are created for a single production, they may still have years of useful life remaining when filming wraps.

SOS Depot will provide a dedicated, on-site destination where those materials can be collected, stored and put back into circulation. Productions will be able to incorporate the depot into their planning at both ends of the production cycle: directing eligible assets to SOS Depot during wrap and accessing reusable materials when preparing and building new sets. SOS Depot will manage the reuse program and the materials stored at the facility. Cinespace will provide the studio infrastructure and operational support needed to establish the pilot at its Kipling Campus.

The initiative is supported by Ontario Green Screen and the City of Toronto, with endorsement and participation from IATSE Local 873, the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario, the Canadian Media Producers Association, NABET 700-M UNIFOR and Full Frame Signs.

The pilot will help establish an accessible model for the circular use of production materials and demonstrate how studios, productions, labour organizations, industry associations and government partners can work together to advance practical sustainability solutions.
