Ryan Garney and Eron Zehavi deliver distinct but complementary frameworks for navigating pressure, loss, and the stories people tell when life falls apart
The difference between survival and collapse isn't strength or preparation. It's containment. We can't stop life from hitting us like an iceberg, but we can stop it from consuming us.”
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- TEDx Talks has released two talks from the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 speaker series, both addressing a question many leadership conversations avoid: not how to prevent crisis, but how to survive it without losing yourself in the process.— Ryan Garney, TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026
The talks, delivered on March 14, 2026, at the Marilyn Monroe Theatre in West Hollywood under the theme "Reimagining the Possible," approach that question from different angles and through different disciplines. Together, they offer complementary frameworks for functioning under pressure, separating fact from interpretation, and choosing a response when life no longer unfolds as planned.
Ryan Garney: Mental Bulkheads
Creative operations leader and Toastmasters World Championship competitor Ryan Garney opened his talk with a history question most people cannot answer. Most people know the Titanic. Far fewer know the Olympic, her nearly identical sister ship, which survived a devastating collision and returned to harbor without losing a single life.
The difference, Garney argued, was not the severity of the damage. It was containment.
His talk, "Mental Bulkheads: Why the Olympic Survived and the Titanic Didn't, and What That Teaches Us About Leading Through Crisis," draws on his own experience managing his father's death while simultaneously building an animation studio at a major entertainment company. He describes what he believed was compartmentalization and what he later understood was something else entirely.
Suppression.
The talk introduces a framework for deliberate emotional sequencing, supported by neuroscience, and offers a practical way to think about crisis before crisis takes over. The Olympic, Garney noted in closing, served for 24 more years after her collision. She became known as Old Reliable. Not because she was never hit. Because she knew which doors to close.
Ryan Garney's talk is now available on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel.
Eron Zehavi: Paralysis Is a State of Mind
Entrepreneur and transformational coach Eron Zehavi opened his talk by telling the audience he was paralyzed. Then he told them they probably were too.
Zehavi sustained a spinal cord injury at 38, with two young children at home. What followed was not a recovery story. It was a framework for understanding why so many people remain stuck not because of their circumstances, but because of the stories they tell about them.
His talk, "Paralysis Is a State of Mind: How Meaning Shapes What's Possible," argues that facts and stories are not the same thing. A spinal cord injury is a fact. "My life is over" is a story. The confusion between the two, Zehavi argued, is where most people get stuck and where most people have more agency than they realize.
He introduced the ART Process, Acknowledge, Reframe, Transform, a framework for separating what is known from what the mind decides it means, and for choosing a story that is both logically plausible and emotionally resonant.
"Massive impostor syndrome, fear of rejection, self doubt, limiting beliefs, low self worth. All of them types of paralysis. No wheelchair required." - Eron Zehavi, TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026
Eron Zehavi's talk is now available on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel.
Two Talks. One Argument.
Garney and Zehavi did not coordinate their talks. They arrived at the same stage from different lives, different disciplines, and different kinds of loss. What connects them is the distinction both make between what happens to a person and what a person decides it means.
One speaker closed his bulkheads and kept sailing. The other stopped confusing paralysis with circumstance. Both left the same stage having given the audience something they could use before they left the building.
Both talks are now available as part of the TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 speaker series on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel.
