Calgary's naturemary is building new R&D, formulation and manufacturing capabilities in Canada as the company expands beyond its growing pain-relief portfolio.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA, September 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As Canadian consumers, retailers and policymakers place renewed attention on products developed and manufactured closer to home, Calgary-based health company naturemary is making a significant investment in Canadian research, formulation and manufacturing.

The company is preparing to launch the naturemary Manufacturing & Innovation Hub in Calgary, a new facility designed to bring research and development, formulation, testing, quality processes and commercial-scale manufacturing under one roof.

For naturemary, the expansion represents more than increased production capacity.

It marks the beginning of the company’s next chapter: using the commercial platform it has built in pain relief to support the development of a broader pipeline of next-generation therapeutic products, with a growing focus on women’s health, hormonal transitions and associated pain.

From Canadian Brand to Canadian Innovation Platform

naturemary began with small-batch formulations developed by co-founder and CEO Sonia Kalra and has since grown into an emerging Canadian consumer health company with products moving through major pharmacy, grocery and natural-health distribution channels.

The company’s pain-relief products are now supported by Canadian wholesale infrastructure that can service retailers and pharmacies nationally, while naturemary continues to pursue new retail, healthcare and international markets.

But as the company has grown, so has its ambition.

The new Calgary facility will give naturemary greater control over the process of moving an idea from early research and formulation through testing, manufacturing and ultimately commercialization.

“Building our capabilities in Canada is incredibly important to us,” said Kapil Kalra, President and Co-Founder of naturemary. “We started by trying to create products that could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. As we grew, we realized the bigger opportunity was not simply to build another consumer brand. It was to build the infrastructure and scientific capabilities required to keep innovating.”

Women’s Health Emerging as a Major Research Focus

One of the areas naturemary intends to increasingly explore is women’s health.

Pain can intersect with a wide range of hormonal and physiological changes throughout a woman’s life, including menstruation, perimenopause and menopause. Yet many women continue to report difficulty finding solutions that adequately address their changing needs.

naturemary believes this represents an important area for further research and product innovation.

The company plans to investigate new formulations and therapeutic approaches that bring together its experience with naturally derived compounds, formulation science, pain relief and emerging research into biological pathways associated with pain and inflammation.

The goal is not simply to introduce another wellness product.

It is to investigate whether new combinations, formulations and delivery approaches can provide women with additional options as their bodies and health needs change.

“Women’s health deserves significantly more attention, research and innovation,” said Sonia Kalra, CEO and Co-Founder of naturemary. “Pain does not exist in isolation. Hormonal changes, inflammation, stress, neurological pathways and individual biology can all influence how women experience their health. We want to better understand those connections and use that knowledge to develop the next generation of solutions.”

Bringing More of the Innovation Process Home

The expansion also comes at a time when Canadian companies are re-examining their dependence on international manufacturing and increasingly looking for ways to strengthen domestic capabilities.

The naturemary Manufacturing & Innovation Hub is being developed to support several stages of that process internally, including:

Research and development • formulation • product testing • quality control • regulatory support • pilot production • commercial manufacturing

The facility is also expected to provide naturemary with the infrastructure required to accelerate development of its own pipeline while eventually supporting select cosmetic and natural health product companies seeking Canadian formulation, research, quality and manufacturing capabilities.

For Kapil Kalra, building that infrastructure domestically is an important part of the company’s long-term strategy.

“Canada has extraordinary scientific talent,” he said. “The opportunity is to connect more of that science with commercialization and manufacturing so that Canadian innovation does not always have to leave the country before it can scale.”

Building on Commercial Momentum

The investment follows a period of significant commercial expansion for naturemary.

The company has been strengthening its Canadian distribution platform, expanding retail penetration and developing relationships across pharmacy, grocery, natural health and healthcare channels.

At the same time, naturemary has begun pursuing international commercialization opportunities, creating a pathway for products researched and developed in Canada to eventually reach consumers in markets beyond North America.

That combination — Canadian R&D, Canadian manufacturing and global commercialization — is becoming central to the company’s next stage.

The Next Chapter

naturemary’s evolution reflects a broader question facing Canada’s health and consumer-product sectors:

Can Canada build more of the products it consumes — and turn more Canadian research into globally competitive companies?

naturemary believes the answer requires companies to invest not only in brands and distribution, but also in the infrastructure behind them.

The company’s Calgary Manufacturing & Innovation Hub is one step toward that goal.

And for naturemary, it brings the company back to the same question that inspired its earliest formulations:

Can we find a better way?

This time, the company intends to explore that question on a much larger scale.
