Even on a short itinerary, travelers reach the island quickly from Tokyo and arrive in a volcanic landscape markedly different from the capital.

Package Highlights

The hike to Mt. Mihara's crater takes about 45 minutes on foot, crossing the volcano's lava fields at a self-guided pace. On clear days, Mt. Fuji is visible from the summit.

Following the hike, travelers stay one night at Oshima Onsen Hotel, located at the foot of the volcano. The hotel offers natural hot spring baths, including an open-air bath facing Mt. Mihara. It is a short drive from the trailhead, with a shuttle connecting directly to the port, and both dinner and breakfast are included.

Dinner features Camellia Oil Fondue, a dish made with oil pressed from camellia trees grown on Izu Oshima.

Travelers reach the island by one of two ferries. The high-speed jet ferry takes about 1 hour 45 minutes from Tokyo, or 45 minutes from Atami, keeping the trip to two days and one night. A large passenger ferry is also available, taking about 6 hours from Tokyo; because its outbound sailing runs overnight, travelers who choose it spend one night aboard the ferry and one night at the hotel, extending the same package into a three-day trip.
