DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Mike ter Maat, candidate for the Republican Party's 2028 vice-presidential nomination, will bring his unprecedented campaign to empower Republican convention delegates to Dallas during the Republican Party's September 9–10 national midterm convention.

Ter Maat will be the featured guest at the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas Delegate Breakfast and Meet & Greet on Thursday, September 10, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Mesero Mexican Restaurant, 2375 Victory Park Lane, less than 1,000 feet from the American Airlines Center.

Ter Maat's campaign challenges the longstanding practice of allowing the Republican presidential nominee to effectively determine the party's vice-presidential nominee. Instead, ter Maat is campaigning directly for the vice-presidential nomination and advocating a greater role for Republican National Convention delegates in selecting the 2028 ticket.

The campaign argues that deferring to the presidential nominee to make the VP selection alone is bad for the Republican Party.

“Empowering delegates to select the vice-presidential nominee in a transparent process would strengthen grassroots participation,” said ter Maat. “A democratic selection process would empower the vice presidency itself as an independently legitimate constitutional office.”

Ter Maat sees the campaign as part of a broader effort to strengthen the liberty movement's influence within the Republican Party. “Including the liberty movement on the national ticket would unify the GOP and enhance our competitiveness in 2028.”

A former White House economist and the Libertarian Party's 2024 vice-presidential nominee, ter Maat is a longtime Republican who returned to the GOP as part of the liberty movement's growing engagement within the Republican Party.

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas breakfast will give ter Maat an opportunity to take that message directly to delegates gathering from across the country.

About Mike ter Maat

A longtime Republican, Mike ter Maat has served as a White House economist, professional free-market advocate, entrepreneur and economics professor. He served as the Libertarian Party's 2024 vice-presidential nominee and as a 2022 congressional candidate. He retired in 2021 after eleven years as a police officer.

Ter Maat has edited two books of essays, BROkEN: How American Politics Is Driving Civil Unrest, Financial Collapse & War (2026) and A Gold New Deal (2024). He co-hosts the podcast Liberty Lens and serves as a contributor to Opportunity Now and The Gary Nolan Show.
